September has been my busiest month yet. So busy that I haven’t even been able to write all that much to my own websites. In fact, I didn’t even keep notes along the way for this post. (I’m writing this from scratch.) While my revenue passed low 4 figures for the month, once again, it’s mostly from client work - with one exception, TLA ads (see below).
I’ve not only managed to secure more writing gigs, but satisfied clients offered me more work than I could handle, and I had to turn some work down. At least until I decided to become a content broker. Now I’m building up a small team of co-writers to work with me. My small group of clients have expressed a liking for my blogging style for them, so what my plan is is to find a few good writers that I can either teach my style to or whose work I can copyedit. This includes organic SEO (what little I currently know), as well as select pop culture topic injections.
So I’m responsible for the final content. I’ve managed to find two good writers, and am talking to a few more. One wrote for me when I had my old monthly print mag, Chaos Review - which is finally a website again, but only focuses on technology. Except I haven’t had time to work on it or on many of my sites. In fact, the newer writer will be breathing some life into my older sites, and the older writer will be working on my newer sites. (Just worked out that way.) My tech sites will be training ground for the new writer, as well as training ground for me to apply some of my new-found blogging skills. And if I succeed, I’ll take on another writer and bootstrap the whole process over again until all of my multiple sites have regular visitors again. Either that or start selling off the domains. (I’m a hoarder, so it ain’t gonna happen.)
Despite the neglect of my sites, September saw me hitting my high daily range more often. (Puny money in comparison to all the money figures you see in the blogosphere, but evidence that revenue will increase with persistence and good content.) I still had one zero-dollar day, just like in August. But as with last September (later half), my contextual ad clicks have gone up. Not a great deal, but definitely threatening to pass my record daily high (low double digits, if you’re wondering).
Now while my own ad revenue is still low, considering I’m barely posting to my sites right now, I’m actually not doing too badly. At least I’m covering my host costs. I did, however, sell out my full inventory of Text-Link-Ad ads at one of my sites. But since payment for September arrived in October, I’ll talk about that in next month’s “milestones”. I may have info about my experience with Feedvertising as well. (Once they support WP 1.5x instead of just 2.0+.)
One last thing. I’ve started finally posting a bit more regularly to my Its My Business website. It’s not another internet marketing site, although it does touch on the topic. What it is is a site about opportunities to earn revenue by working online - a very different thing - using both case studies of my experiences or that of others, as well as tools and tutorials to help make your online-based business more efficient. So if you’re looking for unusual, unique or even normal ways to make some money, go have a look there.
